uGet is FREE (as in freedom and as in beer) and Open Source software

uGet is a Free and Open Source software that is licensed under LGPL .

uGet written in C with GTK+ , using cURL and libcurl , there is
uglib but it still static library.

The original name for this project was "urlgfe" (not sure what gfe stands for) but it was later changed to "urlget" I suspect because of other download program naming schemes.

The name was changed again to shorten it even more and so it had a better flow to it and so URL was taken to just U making "Uget".

It was decided that Uget just looked weird and we decided to change the way the letters are displayed and with consulting from Visuex.com we decided to settle on the lowcase u and uppercase g which makes "uGet".

uGet can be interpreted in multiple ways such as "You Get", "URL Get" and etc but we pronounce it as You Get so take that with what you will.

Facebook has a pointless rule that requires all facebook pages to have the title of the page begin with a capital letter, so basically we didn't have a choice.

Visuex is a Website Design & Internet Marketing company and is also a contributer to the uGet project but are not core developers.

Visuex contributes to the project in many ways such as locating bugs and consulting on development. Visuex also designed the current uGet logo (and are working on a new one). Visuex are also the ones who maintain the website, forums, and social networking accounts for uGet (Facebook, Twitter, etc).

Visuex is a huge proponent of the Open Source Community, whether it be with their own open source projects or contributing to other projects. There are not any global defaults, instead all of the Defaults are controlled via the categories. Edit the properties of the Home category or create a new category. For more info and step by step instructions please read the tutorial.
